VDL Groep Sapphire B

The public at CSI Eindhoven 2015 was given the chance to say goodbye to VDL Groep Sapphire. For the last time this wonderfull mare entered the show jumping arena, ridden by Maikel van der Vleuten. After enjoying several years in the fields at Stoeterij Duyselshof, we had to say goodbye for good in 2020.

VDL Groep Sapphire (by Mr. Blue) and Maikel have been a successful combination for years. In 2009 they were placed second in a 1m50 class at CSI4* Maastricht and also third in the Grand Prix at CSI4* Antwerp. In 2010 they won a class 1m50 at CSI3* Oldenburg. In the outdoor season 2011 they won the Grand Prix of Outdoor Gelderland (De Steeg) and also the Grand Prix ridden during the European Championships in Madrid. During Jumping Amsterdam 2011 Maikel was chosen Rabo Talent of the Year. In 2013 Sapphire and Maikel were doing very well again by first winning the Grand Prix in Maastricht, and a few weeks later also the World Cup at Olympia Horse Show. In 2014 they won the Grand Prix in Maastricht again, in a sensational way!

Sapphire’s sire Mr. Blue was a very admirable Grand Prix-jumper with several riders himself and he produced many international showjumpers out of a limited amount of offspring. For example Mr. Blue is sire of top horses like Simon, Plot Blue, Zirocco Blue VDL, Bluebuster and VDL Groep Santana B.

Damsire Grand Veneur has also proven himself as a very valuable breeding stallion. VDL Groep Sapphire B is bred out of the mare Valse de la Croix, who was a good showjumper too. As a 5yr old she was highly placed at the final of the French championship in Fontainebleau. She also is dam of the Grand Prix-showjumper VDL Groep Marico (s. Jalisco B). Besides that Valse de la Croix is granddam of the approved stallions Malito de Reves (s. Cumano) and the international show jumper Hermes de Reve (s. Quito de Baussy). Marico’s granddam also sired the international performing stallion Cacao Courcelle (s. Jalisco B).

Since the year 2020 her daughter VDL Groep Gold Lady also is in the breeding program of Stoeterij Duyselshof.
